In his talk “A Tabernacle in the Wilderness” President Gordon B. Hinckley speaks about the Tabernacle. He speaks briefly of the changes that were made to make the structure safer. This included new exit doors, and reinforcing the stone pillars throughout the building. In addition the roof was strengthened and redone. In his talk “Tabernacle Memories” President Thomas S Monson shares some of his memories of the Tabernacle. This is one of the many talks in the session of conference that they rededicated the Tabernacle. He opens by sharing his memory of being baptized at the Tabernacle. He explains that at the time it was not customary for fathers to baptize their children since most baptisms took place while the fathers were working. In his talk “Salt Lake Tabernacle Dedication” President James E Faust speaks of the events leading up to the building of the tabernacle. He points out that only two buildings that were built for worship up to that point were the Kirtland and Nauvoo temples. He goes on to say that the one church building they did build was also used as a schoolhouse. President Faust speaks of the meetings that the saints had in Nauvoo and Kirtland. This week, we covered topics ranging from postpartum depression to ways to keep our youth busy over the lazy, hazy summer days. And, believe it or not, we actually had a full week of Gospel Doctrine and Relief Society lesson blogs! All in all, it’s been an interesting week! In his talk “If These Old Walls Could Talk” Bishop H David Burton talks briefly about the restoration of the Tabernacle. He explains that every effort was made to restore it as accurately as possible. Bishop Burton speaks of how they worked to reinforce the walls and put in a new foundation. He tells us about the new roof, and seats with more legroom. He thanks those who worked so long to restore this building to the way it was built.
