Tips for Married Life After Baby

Yesterday we looked at how some new Moms abdicate from normal life when baby arrives. Here are helpful tips and ways we went about preventing this. From the time my children were born, I got them used to noise. The radio or music was always on. We never tiptoed round the house when baby was asleep. They learned to get used to everyday noise. I still went out to tennis, to bible study, to whatever I was involved in. Our daughter was five days old when my husband and I took her to Sunday school with us, where we were … Continue reading

Choose to Attend Seminary

Seminary can be a great blessing. It teaches the youth about the scriptures and it can really help to build testimonies. It may be a difficult decision for some youth when they decide to take seminary, particularly if it is early morning seminary, but the benefits far outweigh the inconveniences. Seminary is the opportunity that our youth have to take an in depth look at the scriptures in a class. When you are studying the scriptures in class every day, you can learn more about the themes and specific principles that the scriptures teach. Sunday school lessons take a more … Continue reading

Tips to Help You Find Time to Read The Ensign

The Ensign and other church magazines are a great resource for you and your family. There are times when I faithfully read the Ensign from cover to cover and other times when I seem to really struggle to find the time to read. However, I have found that as I make the time to read the Ensign and the other church magazines that I learn something and find answers to my prayers. Here are five things that help me to make the time to read. 1) One thing that works for me is to limit my reading material on Sundays. … Continue reading

Sunday School Classes

Generally when you attend Sunday school as an adult you will attend the Gospel Doctrine class. This class studies the scriptures in depth over the course of the year and rotates through the different volumes of scripture each year. However, you may be asked or have the opportunity to attend a different Sunday school class that your ward is offering. One class that you may be asked to attend is Gospel Principles. This class is designed for new members or for members that are returning to activity. It talks about specific principles of the gospel in depth. The scriptures are … Continue reading

Reward Points for Kids

Finding a system of allowances and chores for kids can be mind boggling. Then add the complication of differing parenting opinions on the subject, and you are sure to throw your hands up in frustration. Often parents use the combination of chores and allowance to teach kids responsibility and reward good behavior. This process can become lengthy and time consuming, almost to the point of losing the whole lesson altogether. As most of us parents know, once the idea becomes cumbersome and confusing… kids usually tune out. Let me give you an example. A friend of mine wanted to offer … Continue reading

Serving in the Relief Society: Teacher

Another calling in the Relief Society is as a teacher. A teacher is responsible for giving the lessons on Sunday. One nice thing about Relief Society is that you generally are just assigned one week a month to teach. This allows a teacher ample time to prepare her lesson. The lessons for the second and third week are assigned from The Teachings of the Living Prophets manual (currently Spencer W Kimball) and the fourth week’s lessons are from past General Conference talks. While I have never actually served as a teacher in Relief Society, I have had the opportunity to … Continue reading

Sunday Student Preparation

Sunday morning, my Relief Society instructor announced somewhat sheepishly that she had prepared her lesson the night before. She then proceeded to read from the Teachings of the Presidents manual. I prepared myself for a long, boring lesson that I wouldn’t take much from. To my surprise, the class was great, and I wound up making more notes in my manual than I had by studying on my own. A big part of that was due to the fact that several other women in the class had read the lesson beforehand, and had sincere and thoughtful comments. Anyone who has … Continue reading

How to Handle Those Crazy Sunday Mornings

I’m not sure what it is about Sunday mornings that makes them so crazy. Any other day of the week I can have my kids clean, fed, dressed and ready to go by 8:30 AM. However, when Sunday morning rolls around getting out the door by 9:10 AM seems like an impossible feat. Caleb is looking for his shoe, my husband and I are hunting down all of our Sunday school materials and the breakfast dishes are laying dirty on the table. Maybe it’s because my husband is home and so I spend more time with him, maybe it’s just … Continue reading
