First Presidency Message: Feeding His Lambs

Our First Presidency Message for the month of February as found in the Ensign is by President Henry B. Eyring and is entitled, "Feeding His Lambs."

After the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, He was resurrected and came to find his disciples. They were out fishing. He told them where to cast their nets, and they were able to catch several fish. Then they had a meal together, after which time He taught them important things pertaining to His kingdom. President Eyring points out that Christ fed them before He taught them, taking care of their immediate needs. Then He taught them about spiritual feeding, giving them the charge to feed His lambs.

As members of the Church, we have also been given the commandment to feed His lambs. Our efforts to strengthen and uplift others may not always be successful. Some people choose not to accept the nourishment that is offered, but we still need to try.

We are given the ability to spiritually nourish others as we draw close to the Spirit, and so keeping ourselves in harmony with the Spirit is the first step as we seek to enrich the lives of others. As we do this, we will find ourselves having more compassion for those around us and we will know more fully the ways in which they need our nourishment.

Additionally, as we study the scriptures and pray, we will be given greater access to the words we should speak. Our obedience and our willingness to serve will enable us to be instruments in bringing many of our Heavenly Father's sheep back into the fold.

This article primarily speaks about fellowshipping new members of the Church, but I submit that we all need someone to feed us from time to time, whether we've been in the Church a month, a decade, or a lifetime. We can all feed each other, offering words of support during times of trial, and yes, even physically feeding each other in times of sickness or need. This truly was a beautiful message and I encourage you to read it with your families.
