Increase Your Spirituality Through Finding Balance

As I look for peace in my life I find that it is directly related to my current level of spirituality and my focus on putting God and family first in my life. When I do this I am more at peace. I feel that I can accomplish more and everything else just falls into place. I write about this topic a lot, because I also find that it is too easy to allow myself to fall out of balance. It is easy to stop trusting the Lord and to worry obsessively about things that I have no control over. … Continue reading

Finding Hope in Difficult Times

When you are faced with difficult times, it can be difficult to find the motivation to keep moving forward. It can seem as though you have been abandoned or that your prayers are not being heard. Hope is an essential part of the gospel. It gives us the strength we need to continue forward on a daily basis. It gives us a glimpse of the future and a something to strive for. So how do we find hope in difficult times? It is important that hope comes as we put our trust in the Lord and have faith that He … Continue reading

Finding Trust in the Lord

One of the ways that I’ve been able to find peace and true happiness is by learning to trust the Lord. There have been several times in my life when I’ve had to take that blind step forward and simply trust that the Lord is aware of me, and my situation. He has always pulled through for me, and things have worked out the way that they are supposed to. My past experiences have given me the strength I need as I am faced with a new decision in which I need to trust the Lord. Since I am a … Continue reading

Finding the Right Church – Part 2

Yesterday I started a blog about criteria for finding the right church -what it should be like. This is for us how it worked out in practice. When I left you yesterday, my husband and I had just walked into a church in an area where we thought we might possibly move to. It wasn’t the only area we were considering but one of several that we could afford. I found it daunting walking into a new church, where we knew no-one. But God provided. We were warmly welcomed by several people. We sat down. One of the first songs … Continue reading

Find the Joy

In Relief Society this past Sunday, our Relief Society President announced our ward’s theme for 2011. “Find the Joy”. Our President referenced the talk by President Monson titled, “Finding Joy in the Journey“. He gave this talk in 2008, but it is something I definitely need to be reminded of in 2011. I am not one to make New Year’s resolutions. I have in the past, but I often don’t think much about them after setting them, so it hasn’t really served me well. So, I guess, I don’t take them too seriously. However, this past week, I have been … Continue reading

Be a Blessing

Do you ever stop to think about blessings? Too often we don’t stop and thank God for the blessings we receive each day from His hand. There are some that struck me on this Easter Monday morning. 1. The blessing of Easter, when Jesus died in God’s rescue plan so we can be friends with God and not be separated from Him by our sin. 2.The blessing of being able to freely go to church and worship Him with like minded people. 3.The blessing of family and friends who love and care for us. 4. The blessing of the beauty … Continue reading

Making Faith Your Focus

In these difficult times it is especially hard to let go of your worries and put your trust in the Lord. One of the most difficult things to do is to let go of the worries that assail us as we deal with difficult circumstances and personal trials. Instead of putting our trust in the Lord, and knowing that he will go with us through our trials, we often fight against the situation and end up feeling alone and scared. In his talk in Sunday morning session of April 2009 General Conference, President Thomas S Monson spoke about people who … Continue reading

Being Effective and Happy

As I look back on my life, I find that there are times full of peace and happiness and times when life wasn’t happy or at all peaceful. These times do not necessarily coincide with being in the midst of a trial, because I’ve had trials I’ve ridden out with peace in my heart. What I’ve found the biggest difference is where my focus was, and how productive I was at the time. When my life was centered on the gospel and reaching out to help others, I found peace, even when going through my difficult times. I also found … Continue reading

Mine Angels Shall Bear You Up

Perhaps the most common question asked by those seeking enlightenment about God’s relationship with His children is this: “Why do bad things happen to good people? If God loves us, why do these horrible things happen?” We’ve all heard it. “Sister Jones is so righteous. Why does she have cancer?” We need to keep in mind, righteousness is not a “get out of trials free” card. Every person on this earth, regardless of how righteous they are, must face trials and tribulations. We cannot progress and return to our Heavenly Father until we have done so. No one is immune. … Continue reading

Wisdom from Proverbs

The speaker in Proverbs 3 tells his son there is a two fold benefit of obeying his commandments and teaching and that ‘is length of days and years of life, And peace they will add to you,’ verse 2. It appears this verse refers back to one of the Ten Commandments, exodus 20:12. Verses 5 and 7 of Exodus 20 have warnings attached but Exodus 20:12 is the only one with a promise attached. The writer urges his son to have and to display kindness and truth, for it not only pleases God but others notice as well, verses 3 … Continue reading
