Family Home Evening For a New Arrival

Last night, we had a family home evening for the kiddos. My husband and I take turns because our kids are so little that they can’t really prepare a lesson yet. It was a simple one, but it was pertinent to our lives right now. When preparing a family home evening for kids that are so little, it is challenging. My son, who is 2 1/2 has a very short attention span these days. If it’s not making noise, a super hero, or flashing bright lights, he’s not interested. But, last night I was able to captivate them for a … Continue reading

LDS Family Week in Review: April 29-May 5

This has been a fantastic week in the LDS blog. I’m still working on getting back up to speed in the Gospel Doctrine and EQ/RS Lesson categories following the arrival of our new little one, but was able to write some. We’ve also had some other fantastic blogs! Gospel Doctrine In The Rich Young Man, we talked about how the youth in the Sunday School lesson eagerly embraced Christ – until he found out what the Master required was his all. In Give As Ye Are Able, we reviewed ways the Lord expects us to give. And in The Root … Continue reading

A Baby Blessing

In the LDS church, we believe that we should be baptized when we are old enough to know right from wrong. As little babies, we don’t sin simply because we don’t know right from wrong. We also don’t believe that by being born we are born with sin. So, in our church, we do not baptize infants. But, having a new infant is still a very special time. That little life brought into a new home is so magical. You can’t help but feel how close they are to their Heavenly Father, and you can’t help but worry about the … Continue reading

FHE with Small Children-Testimonies

On Sunday, we had a rare event in our ward. Three children bore their testimonies. In a ward with only about 15 children in it, this does not happen very often. It started me thinking and wondering if my children had heard the word testimony and if they knew what it meant. It made me wonder if they had one of their own? Remember, they are just 3 and 5 years old. So, I started off by reading a scriptures on testimony in D&C. I asked them if they had heard that word, and they had. But, when I asked … Continue reading

An FHE For Small Children- Thanksgiving Lesson with a Twist

It seems that there is a popular story that I am just discovering as a parent called, The turkey with the terrible temper. It is all about teaching your children how to control their anger. I decided since it went along with the theme of turkeys, it would be a good topic to address the week of Thanksgiving. After all, my kids were talking about turkeys a lot anyway it seemed that week! But, I thought to put a twist on it, we would also talk about being thankful in the same lesson. This is what I came up with. … Continue reading
