Celebrating a Baptism

A baptism is a very special event in the church. When an eight year old get baptized, it is important to take the time to celebrate the occasion. It is also important to treat the event with the proper reverence and respect. Often children will be baptized on the Saturday before a Fast Sunday, but occasionally a family may schedule the baptism for a different day. The program is usually set up with an opening song, a prayer, talk on baptism, and then the baptism. After that there is usually a talk on the gift of the Holy Ghost and … Continue reading

Primary Time: Baptism

The only Primary class that I ever taught was right after I graduated high school. I was assigned to teach the children who were turning eight and being baptized that year. I only taught the one summer before I left to go to school, but I was able to attend four out of the five of my student’s baptism. One had already been baptized before I began teaching. This is an important time in each child’s life as they make the decision to be baptized. It is important to support the children during this time. As a primary teacher you … Continue reading

Gospel Doctrine: The Ordinance of Baptism

I’m sure you didn’t think it was possible, but I finished up Matthew 3 today. In the last few verses (13-17), Christ goes down to the waters of Jordan to be baptized by John who, you’ll remember, held the Aaronic priesthood. If Christ, who was perfect, had need to be baptized, what does that say for us? When Christ approached John about the baptism, John asked how Christ could need to be baptized by him, a mortal man. Obviously, John recognized the divine nature of the Savior. I am sure that, as he grew, Elizabeth testified to him of the … Continue reading

The Seventh and Eighth Weeks Post Partum

Seven weeks out from my daughter’s birth, I seemed to have hit a bit of a rut. While I am still feeling great, my sweets intake has increased due to recent celebrations and my motivation to exercise seems to be dwindling a little bit too. My diet started veered off course when I put together a party for my daughter’s baptism. I made the famous red velvet cupcakes. They were both tasty and calorie heavy especially with the cream cheese frosting. After that I made my thanksgiving pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread, using the sweet pumpkins I had processed and … Continue reading

Primary Time: Missionary Work

Sharing the gospel with others is an important part of the teachings of the church. As we do this we are not force our beliefs on others, but rather open the door for them to ask questions and to learn as much as they feel comfortable learning. Primary children can also participate in inviting friends and loved ones to learn more about the church. You can have your children invite friends to participate in family home evenings and family activity nights. One great way to do this is to invite the entire family to participate not just the friend. This … Continue reading
