Do Your Actions Demonstrate Your Priorities?by Miriam Caldwell | More from this Blogger 12 Jul 2007 06:54 PM Recently I took a quiz that matched me to the political candidate I should vote for. The quiz asked me all sorts of questions about the many different issues that you consider when voting for a candidate. I was surprised to discover that the candidate that I most closely matched was not one that I had considered, in fact he is not in the same political party that I put myself in. It really got me thinking about what I felt and thought and why. Now as we all know this is a religious blog and not a political one, so I am going to relate this to religion. As I was sitting there in shock that my political views matched his so closely, I realized that this can also be applied to life and faith. I know that I will not vote for this candidate because my most important views and issues do not match, which the survey did not take into account. But how does the way I spend my time match up with my priorities and beliefs? Nola just wrote an excellent blog about determining your priorities. Do others realize what your priorities are? It is important that you stand up for and defend the things that matter the most to you. This does not mean to be confrontational or to judge others for having different priorities. It just means making sure that you put your priorities first. As Mormons we are noticed because we stand out a little bit-we don't drink coffee, we often have large families, and we do not use vulgar language. These priorities can be a great way to have a discussion about the gospel. By recognizing your true priorities and sharing them with your children, you are setting an excellent example for them. This can also lead to a greater sense of peace, because you are working on the most important things first.
