Do You BYU - Online?

Years ago, my husband and I made the switch from cable to satellite for two reasons. One of them - the primary one for my husband - was the BYU channel. Some time has passed, our lives have changed, we've moved, and satellite is not accessible to us. However, while we were trying to set up our computers to watch General Conference online this weekend, I learned something important - you can watch the BYU channel online, as well!

There are two methods you can use; you can watch live TV or you can watch shows that have previously played. I'd like to share both methods with you so you can utilize the most appropriate one for your life. How do you know what shows are available? Check out the program schedule. You can watch Education week, Relief Society or Young Women broadcasts, or talks from previous Conferences, among many other fantastic resources.

To watch BYU TV live, go to the BYU TV website. On the left side of the page, click the blue 'tune in now' button. This will give you two options to watch with, one of which is the standard Windows Media Player, already available on most computers. Windows Media Player will take you directly to the live program, assuming you have the necessary tool already downloaded. If you don't, you can scroll down and download one of the options.

To watch previously broadcast shows, follow the above directions to get to the options but instead choose option 1, Move Networks. This will also take you to a live program, but with a smaller screen. To the left of the screen, a schedule will appear. You can scroll up that schedule and pick a show from earlier in the day. At the top of the program, you will see the option to 'choose a date'. This allows you to select another day up to two weeks in the past. Now you can scroll through those dates, as well!

I find myself constantly amazed at the fantastic resources the Internet makes available to us throughout the world. Watching the BYU channel anytime, anywhere, can provide so many opportunities for us and our children. I confess to being particularly excited by the idea of plugging my headphones into the computer and thus not disturbing my kids while they nap or my husband who may not want to hear the program.

The next thing on my list - figure out a way to bully my husband into learning how to download a program. After all, he has a DVD burner on his computer.....
