What Happily Married Couples Do

Today, my husband and I got into an argument. Neither one of us could seem to see the other person’s point of view. While he is a great strength to me, we are both tired, and exhausted much of the time due to raising 3 kids, one of which is a 2 month old, very need baby. In that environment, it is easy to get short with one another, and not realize before it is too late, and we are arguing. Without going into what our fight was about, I will say that we worked it out. We always do. … Continue reading

Bittersweet Miracles of 2011

JK Rowling once said, “Rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.” As the year 2011 is coming to a close, I find myself spending a lot of time reflecting on the year’s events. It is amazing to me how much a life can change in such a short amount of time. The year 2011 was a hard one for us. It was the year our lives turned upside down during a painful divorce. It was a year of change. We moved back in with my parents, I changed my major and went back to school, … Continue reading

What I Believe-Part 1, God and Jesus Christ

I’ve thought a lot about how to write this series of articles. I guess the idea came to me when I was writing another article, A Mormon for President? and debated about whether or not to post it on facebook. Many of my friends on facebook are friends from high school and other times in my life. I often share my blogs there that I have written. I wonder how many of those friends that aren’t Mormon wonder about what I truly believe. Maybe they were afraid to ask. Maybe they just assumed what had already been told to them … Continue reading

Do You Believe in Miracles?

I have been loving studying the New Testament this year in Sunday School. There is nothing better than reading about Christ’s life. This past week, we talked about some of the miracles He performed while on this earth, and the lessons we can learn by applying the principles from these miracles in our lives. First, we discussed the reasons why Christ performed miracles. There were three reasons: * To build the faith of others * Compassion He felt towards others * To show His power Every miracle in the new testament can be categorized into one of those three reasons. … Continue reading

Creating Miracles

They say that when it comes to saving the life of their own child, parents can become superhuman – lifting cars and fighting off villains. But sometimes, saving the life of your child doesn’t take one adrenaline rush, but rather years of patience, determination and vigor. When your child has a life-threatening genetic disease that will claim her life if left untreated, a parent may have to fight the system in order to save his child. Take John Crowley for example. Two of his children, both babies at the time, were diagnosed with Pompe disease and he and his wife … Continue reading

When Should You Leave a Church?

The other day we looked at the impossibility of finding a perfect church. In that blog and another one I suggested what to me, are the essential points to look for in a church. But when should you leave a church and move on to look for another spiritual home? It is a problem we have come up against several times in our lives. In our home bible study group we’ve been studying John’s letters. Last week we looked at 2 John and John’s love for those who were ‘walking in truth’ verse 4, as some in the church were. … Continue reading

What If Your Kids Don’t Prove Homeschooling Works?

Statistics overwhelmingly show that home schooling works. There has been research that shows that home schooled kids are better socialized, have better opportunities, score higher on achievement tests, and get into better colleges. Colleges are coveting young homeschoolers who they deem are more mature as a group and more serious about their studies. In fact, I’ve yet to see a good study that suggests that home schooling, on the whole is bad for kids. But what if your kids just score average on their SAT’s (or worse–what if they don’t do well), and what if they’re socially awkward. What if … Continue reading

Do You Know The Lyrics?

In one of my last blogs, I talked about two new television game shows that focus on not how well you can sing a song, but if you know the correct lyrics. Have you ever been in the car with a spouse, family member, or friend and heard them sing the wrong lyrics? I know I have. But then, I am a bit of a stickler for correct lyrics. I remember sitting in my bedroom as a teen, hoping the new album I just bought had the lyrics including in the record sleeve. After all, back then, looking up the … Continue reading

Are You Prepared For The Cost In Following Jesus?

Anything worthwhile in life never comes without cost. It may not be a cost in monetary terms or an investment in time put into a work situation or relationship. Are you prepared for the cost in following Jesus? Lets’ see what help we can find from Mark 3:20-35 about this. 1. Jesus was doing His Heavenly Father’s will, yet his family decided He ‘was out of his mind,’ verse 21. His family tried to dissuade him. They could not understand His motivation. When we are in the middle of God’s will, where He would have us, we may find there … Continue reading
