Dinner Discussions Week 39

This week's dinner discussions are based on lesson 39 in the various manuals. You may need to adjust if your ward is on a slightly different schedule. Remember to keep the discussions positive and interesting.

If you have a child in Nursery or Sunbeams, she learned about enjoying the blessings of music. They learned about the how David would play for music for King Saul when he was upset. They also learned about how the pioneers and the Jaredites would sing as they traveled. They talked about how singing songs can remind them of Heavenly Father. You may want to sing with your children this week.

If you have a child between the ages of four and seven, he learned about the importance of serving others. The children learned the story of the Savior washing the apostles' feet. They also learned many different ways that they could serve others. Be sure to praise your child when you catch him serving others. You may want to do some service as a family this week.

If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven, she learned about Job. In class they discussed how trials help to refine and strengthen us. They heard stories of others that had suffered trials, and discussed positive ways to deal with trials. You may want to share some of the trials you have been through, and how they strengthened you. This week's assigned reading is Job 27:2-5.

If you have a child who is twelve or thirteen, he learned about the importance of having a positive attitude. They learned that Satan wants us to feel discouraged, while the Lord wants us to "be of good cheer." They heard the story about how President Hinckley was discouraged when he first went on a mission. They also read the counsel given to Joseph Smith in Doctrine and Covenants section 122. You may want to discuss blessings that have helped you get through hard times.

Sunday School for ages fourteen and older was based in Isaiah 50-53. These scriptures talk a great deal about the Atonement of the Savior. You may want to discuss the blessings of the Atonement, as well as share your testimony of the reality of the Atonement with your children.

Young Women learned about the dangers of drug abuse. The young men learned about being a missionary by being a good example. The Relief Society and Priesthood learned about agency and the consequences of our choices.
