Be Thankful for Your Blessings

Until we became a military family, I never quite understood the sacrifice that they paid. I knew it in theory but now it has become so much more real. We are giving up the presence of our son at the Thanksgiving table this year. It is hard for everyone to accept the first of what will likely be many holidays without him. It has given me such a greater appreciation for their service to our country and the families who are without their loved ones. Suddenly thankfulness has taken on a whole new meaning. While I have always appreciated my … Continue reading

Count Your Blessings

It has been a difficult couple of weeks with so many year marks packed right together. So much has happened over the past year and while I am in a much better place than I was a year ago, it still has been an emotional time for me. It has brought many of the feelings back to the surface and I have had to find a way to cope with things all over again. Needless to say, for a moment there, I was feeling a little sorry for myself. However, I was quickly reminded of just how lucky I really … Continue reading

Count Your Blessings

I don’t consider myself a selfish person. Of course, none of us believes we are selfish or spoiled or any other negative adjective, but my thoughts on that are changing. I’ve been whining, yes, whining about how hard it is to be a single parent, to raise a child on one income, to not have any time for myself and on and on it goes. I think we are all guilty of complaining, at least I hope so, I would hate to be the only one. I belong to a meetup group and every year they do some charity thing, … Continue reading

Parents of Special Needs Children Count Their Blessings

When your child is diagnosed with a special need, it changes you. It strips you of the dreams you had and tosses you into a scary world full of a new vocabulary and a ton of doctors. It makes you doubt yourself and God. But after the dust settles, you begin to grow and learn, and if you’re open to it, having a child with special needs will help you become a more grateful, happier person. You are Stronger than You Think Even wallflowers turn into untiring advocates for their child with special needs. Trying to make sure your child … Continue reading

Should You Do Business with Your Friends?

We all know a guy who can get us a good deal on something. And if we don’t, Johnny at work has a cousin whose friend can get us a good deal. In today’s world, sometimes it’s all about who you know. You can get a better job if you do a little name-dropping, call in a few favors. You might get a discount if you play your cards right. And come on – who doesn’t want a good deal? Who would turn down an opportunity to save some cash? But there are times when it’s not wise to enter … Continue reading

Celebrating New Year’s With Your Kids

New Year’s with your kids is a fun way to celebrate the holiday. They get a kick out of it because they hear so much talk about it. To celebrate makes them feel very grown up. It also gives them a good excuse to stay up late. Here are some neat things to do with your kids on New Year’s Eve: Order take out food that they like for the “big night”. Most kids like pizza, but this list could also include chicken wings, Chinese, fast food or any other kind of food that is reserved only for special times. … Continue reading

The Blessings Box

After Thanksgiving and before Christmas: it’s a time of year to count our blessings. But what do you mean when you say that you’re counting them? Are you actually taking time to think about your life, reflect, and think specifically and gratefully about the blessings that it holds? While I regularly feel grateful about my life, like other feelings, the feeling passes, the moment moves on, and I get right back into the swing of doing whatever it is I am doing. I don’t pause and reflect and stay grateful for long, sad to say. So I’m thinking of creating … Continue reading

Baby Blog Month in Review: August 2008

Isn’t it crazy the way babies grow so quickly? It seems that you just get used to one stage and boom they are already into another. Tonight, were busy getting the household all set for my eldest child’s first day of second grade. My two younger ones are excited and want to start school, too. It will be a busy month. Don’t worry about the missing last week of blogs. I’ve gotten quite a few questions about where I have been. The Baby Blog tends to go on hiatus the last week of the month. That may change in the … Continue reading

Notebook of blessings

A comment on my last blog and a visit to Courtney’s blog inspired me to think about a notebook of blessings. I hope as you read you will be inspired to create your own list of blessings. I praise God for: The gift of love – that of my husband, family and friends and especially God’s love as revealed to is through Jesus and his death on the cross for my sins. The beauty of creation. We have not long returned from a walk down by what people here refer to as a lake but it is actually St Georges … Continue reading

Recognizing the Lord’s Hand in Your Life

Are there times in your life when it is difficult to find the hand of the Lord in your life? Often in the midst of trials or even day to day life it can be difficult to recognize that the Lord cares about your daily struggles. It is too easy to think that only the really big milestones matter to the Lord, or that you are insignificant in the sight of the Lord. There are times that I struggle with these feelings. However I know that the Lord loves me. When I feel this way I do a few things … Continue reading
