Christmas Music

It seems as though music and Christmas go hand in hand. There are so many beautiful Christmas hymns that are about the Savior's birth. It is important to incorporate these hymns into the traditions that you do as a family. Even if you are not musically talented (as I am not), you can enjoy these wonderful songs throughout the Christmas season.

It seems that with commercialization of the Christmas season that it is becoming more difficult to find the religious Christmas songs, as you listen to the radio or complete your holiday shopping. You can bring the focus back at home, as you choose to play religious Christmas songs at home.

Growing up we would act out the nativity every Christmas Eve as a family. As we read the scriptures, mainly from Luke, about the Christmas story, we would stop intermittently to sing the hymns. These songs brought the spirit into the home, and somehow made the night seem more real to us as a family.

The past two years our Sacrament meetings right before Christmas have been almost entirely music with a few scriptures and testimonies added in. It is wonderful to worship in this way. The Sacrament meetings are a combination of performances and the congregation singing these beautiful songs that celebrate the Savior's birth.

Although people may scoff, there is something to be said for playing the Christmas hymns throughout the year. Christ's birth and life, as well as the Atonement and Resurrection are all things that we should remember throughout the year. This can help us to remember the blessing that Christ is in each of our lives.

You can incorporate the music into family home evenings as well. You may decide to go caroling or celebrate as a family singing together. Music is such a beautiful way to worship and strengthen our testimonies. Do you have any favorite Christmas memories that revolve around music?
