Choose to Attend Seminaryby Miriam Caldwell | More from this Blogger 07 Jul 2008 11:30 PM Seminary can be a great blessing. It teaches the youth about the scriptures and it can really help to build testimonies. It may be a difficult decision for some youth when they decide to take seminary, particularly if it is early morning seminary, but the benefits far outweigh the inconveniences. Seminary is the opportunity that our youth have to take an in depth look at the scriptures in a class. When you are studying the scriptures in class every day, you can learn more about the themes and specific principles that the scriptures teach. Sunday school lessons take a more broad teaching approach. Seminary can also help to set up a daily reading habit for many youth. Since the youth are asked to read the daily lessons, this can begin a life long habit of daily scripture reading and personal prayer. This habit can help to strengthen testimonies and prepare you to serve a mission. Seminary helps you to stay focused on the truly important things. It is a chance to focus on the gospel every day. Additionally you get to meet with other youth every day of the week. This can be helpful if you feel isolated because of your belief in the gospel. Seminary can help to strengthen your testimony. I know several people who gained specific aspects of their testimonies as a result of attending seminary. Seminary teachers are called to teach and work hard to have the spirit in their classrooms. Each day they teach important principles of the gospel. Even if your youth program is small and spread out you can participate in a seminary home study program that meets once a week. While this may require more self-discipline, it will still benefit your spiritually and is worth the extra effort involved. No mater what type of seminary program your participate in you will benefit from studying the scriptures in such depth.
