Callings: Handling More Than One

If you live in a small branch, or ward you may be asked to take on more than one calling. It can be difficult to juggle the many commitments, and still make your family the first priority. It is important to remember that your family comes first, and to find a good balance with all of your callings as you strive to be active in the church.

First you need to decide whether or not you can handle the two callings or if they conflict with each other. For example you may be able to be achievement days leader and serve as a Relief Society teacher, but you wouldn't be able to work in Young Women's and Relief Society at the same time. Additionally you shouldn't have two major callings at the same time.

Second you need to decide what needs to be done to fulfill the calling, and not stress about going above and beyond if it is too much for you. For example you might not be able to make hand outs for every lesson like you normally would if you have to do the ward bulletin each week as well. (Not that you need handouts with each lesson-I certainly don't do them.)

Third you need to be able to step back and make sure that you haven't taken on too much. Give yourself a month or two to adjust, and if it is not working, ask to be released from one of your callings. It is also okay to say no to more callings if you can not handle it at the time.

Finally remember that the Lord will help you to do what He asks of you, so if you've prayed about accepting the extra calling, and feel that it is the Lord's will, then simply do your best. You will be blessed in your home life and spiritually for being willing to serve the Lord at this time.
