Marking Your Scriptures

One of the ways to get the most out of your scripture study is to mark your scriptures. There are many different ways to do this—probably as many ways as there are people who read, but I’d like to share some ideas here that may appeal. 1. Likening the Scriptures to Ourselves

As I’ve prepared for my new, upcoming calling as Seminary teacher (of which, I’m sure, you will hear a lot about!), I have seriously pondered Nephi’s method of teaching. You see, as Nephi instructed his brothers, he states, “I did liken all scriptures unto us, that it might be for our profit and learning” (1 Nephi 19:23). As he put himself in the scriptures, they began to mean more to him. Broadening My Personal Scripture Study

When it comes to personal scripture study, I tend to focus on the Book of Mormon. I have read the Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price and the New Testament all the way through. I have read a great deal of the Old Testament, but I seem to focus my personal scripture study on the Book of Mormon or I study by topic. General Conference: “The Miracle of the Holy Bible”

In his talk “The Miracle of the Holy Bible” Elder M Russell Ballard talks about the blessings the Bible brings to each of us. He opens his talk by reviewing the way that the Bible became available to all of us. He speaks of the courage of Martin Luther, William Tyndale and John Wycliffe. He also speaks of the importance Johannes Gutenberg and the printing press. Elder Ballard goes on to speak about the sacred words that are found in the Bible. LDS Family Week in Review: June 3-9

This week, we covered topics ranging from postpartum depression to ways to keep our youth busy over the lazy, hazy summer days. And, believe it or not, we actually had a full week of Gospel Doctrine and Relief Society lesson blogs! All in all, it’s been an interesting week! Gospel Doctrine In Signs of Destruction, we looked at some of the signs of the Second Coming of Jesus.
