Trials and Tribulations

As single parents we are faced with our fair share of trials in our life. At times you may feel like there is a target on your back. Trying to get back on your feet can be a challenge. Sometimes you feel as if the entire universe has combined against you. You try to do all of the right things and live your life the right way for you and your children and it doesn’t always work out the way that you think that it should. Life isn’t fair, as much as we would like it to be it just … Continue reading

When You Can’t Stand To Change One More Diaper

Imagine yourself standing before the changing table. Your baby squirms and coos. It is a familiar routine for the both of you. You could probably change a diaper in your sleep; you’ve done it so many times. Now picture yourself standing in front of the same changing table. Your baby is now a toddler, squirming and threatening to grab his bottom, which is covered in the most putrid, foul smelling poop you have come across yet, thanks to his overindulgence in grapes yesterday. Cleaning him up is far from easy because he is determined to get up and run away. … Continue reading

Scripture Study and My Day

Today has been one of those days where I rattle around, attempting to do a long list of tasks, and not getting anything done. As I sat down at my computer preparing to begin my writing for the day I asked myself what was wrong with me today. And it hit me that I hadn’t read my scriptures yet today. So I went and read them, and prayed, and I’ve felt so much more peaceful today. Daily scripture reading is a chance to focus and to be still. During the time that we read our scriptures each day it shows … Continue reading

Saying Good-bye and Good Luck

This is my last post as a blogger at families.com. I just wanted to write a simple thank you to those who have been reading my words for the last several years. I have truly enjoyed my time here, and I’ve really felt blessed, as I have shared my testimony of the gospel. I have grown tremendously as I have studied the scriptures more deeply, and I have gained a better understanding of the blessings that the gospel brings into our lives. The years that I have spent writing here have not been the easiest for me personally. My family … Continue reading

Tithing Blessings

Paying your tithing is always a choice that you make. Each month you can choose not to pay it, though some months may seem more difficult than others. When you are truly struggling to make ends meet, it can be difficult to choose to send in the tithing check each month. However paying tithing is a commandment, and we should follow it. Additionally paying tithing is a commandment with a promise. In Malachi 3:10 it reads: “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse . . . and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will … Continue reading

Tithing and the Economy

With the bad news in regards to the economy, you may begin to feel the pinch in your budget at home. One of the areas that you may consider cutting back on is tithing. In fact if you go to many financial advisors they recommend that you stop paying tithing if you are having a difficult time making ends meet. However, tithing is a commandment, and you will be blessed for paying your tithing. The blessings of tithing are not necessarily seen just monetarily. You may not become rich if you pay your tithing, but you will be blessed in … Continue reading

Searching for Blessings

This year has been one of my most difficult ones. I have blogged about some of my trials over the year, since I have learned from them. At tithing settlement yesterday, my bishop pointed out that we should look for our blessings. We were not discussing the difficult things that my family has been through the past year. At the time I thought to myself “Yeah right! What blessings?” As we drove home, I turned to my husband, and suddenly I began to see all the blessings in our lives. We have come through a difficult year, with our faith … Continue reading

General Conference: “Claim the Exceedingly Great and Precious Promises”

In his talk “Claim the Exceedingly Great and Precious Promises” Elder Spencer J Conde speaks about the importance of keeping an eternal perspective in this life. Elder Conde opens his talk by briefly speaking about the importance of faith. He emphasizes the importance of having faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
