Asking Heavenly Father for Help

In the blog I wrote the other day about humility and asking God for help, I wrote, referring to Heavenly Father: “He is there, just waiting for you to humble yourself enough to ask for help.” Why is it that He waits for us to ask Him for help? If He knows everything, why doesn’t He know we need help and just give it? In contemplating this question, many reasons sprang to mind. 1. The greatest tool He gave us to use here in our mortal lives is free agency. He does not force any man to heaven, and He … Continue reading

FHE For Small Children-The Prexistence

This past Sunday, my 4 year old gave his very first talk in primary. I was so proud of him. I helped him prepare his talk by asking him a series of questions about what he knew about the earth since the theme was, “Heavenly Father created the Earth for His children”. He told me things like it is really big. It is in space. It has lots of different countries. It was really fun to find out what he knew about earth. I asked him what his favorite thing to do on earth was, and he replied, “Eat!” Very … Continue reading

No Need to Fear

When I go through my day each day, I don’t feel a lot of fear. I am afraid to say that I don’t often think about the tragedy and sorrow that is going on in the world around me. Some days, I don’t even think a lot about what other people are doing that might be morally incorrupt. After all, I am a Mom to 3 small children. My days are full of the bare necessities. Cleaning, cooking, bathing, feeding, breaking up fights, and teaching my children…well, everything children need to be taught. But, some days, I stop and take … Continue reading

Preparing for Sharing Time

Since I am in the primary presidency, part of my responsibilities include preparing sharing time every third week. I usually find that Saturday night, I am looking over the sharing time, and throwing things together. But, seeing as we have a small group, it usually always works out fine. However, I’ve been thinking lately about ways that I can prepare more for these little lessons I give each week. After all, I truly believe that we are, “teaching children, not lessons” and it is more about being prepared in spirit rather than having the perfect prop or gimmick for the … Continue reading

Saying No to a Calling

In the church, I have to admit that I have been jaded in the past about callings. There have been times in my life where the Bishop barely knows us and has given us callings that I felt were too time intensive, and too much of a sacrifice for our family. But, with that being said, I do have a testimony that everything comes from the Lord for a reason, and I would never turn down a calling. When my husband was in graduate school, there was a time where I wanted to say no. But, my faith in the … Continue reading

For the Strength of Youth Series: Gratitude

This section of the For the Strength of Youth pamphlet is one of the shortest, but oh what a difference it makes in your life! Many of us have heard President Monson talk about an “attitude of gratitude” and how it will make our lives seem happier and more bountiful. This section of the pamphlet also has a parable attached to teach the principle. The parable of the ten lepers (found in Luke 17:12-19) illustrates this standard beautifully. In this parable, Christ encounters ten lepers, who beg him to heal them. He takes mercy on them, and sends them to … Continue reading

LDS Week in Review – March 3rd-8th

Welcome to our Week in Review, where we summarize the week’s blogs and help keep you on top of all the latest doings here in LDS. We started the week with a look at “Preach My Gospel,” a learning aid that is given to missionaries entering the field, and that we as members also have access to. We can be missionaries wherever we are, and this piece of curriculum can help prepare us for that. Miriam spoke of the power the Gospel has to help us make and keep friendships throughout our lives, and also of the March 2008 Sharing … Continue reading

General Conference: “A Broken Heart and a Contrite Spirit”

In his talk “A Broken Heart and Contrite Spirit” Elder Bruce D Porter speaks about the importance of having a broken heart. Elder Porter explains that Mosaic law symbolically pointed to the sacrifice that our Savior made to us. The Savior is the perfect example of a broken heart since he submitted his will to the Father’s in all things. Elder Porter emphasizes that when our hearts are broken and our spirits are contrite that we are open to the spirit. We also recognize our total dependence on God. Additionally we sacrifice all forms of pride in order to have … Continue reading

Listening with Our Hearts

Earlier in today’s Scripture Study, I reviewed 1 Nephi 14:1-2, which reads: 1. And it shall come to pass, that if the Gentiles shall hearken unto the Lamb of God in that day that he shall manifest himself unto them in word, and also in power, in very deed, unto the taking away of their stumbling blocks— 2. And harden not their hearts against the Lamb of God, they shall be numbered among the seed of thy father; yea, they shall be numbered among the house of Israel; and they shall be a blessed people upon the promised land forever; … Continue reading

Scripture Study: 1 Nephi 12:19-23

Nephi’s vision continues. He has been seeing the fate of his descendants four generations after the coming of Christ, and he sees that the descendants of his brothers have fallen away and become enemies to their cousins. 19. And while the angel spake these words, I beheld and saw that the seed of my brethren did contend against my seed, according to the word of the angel; and because of the pride of my seed, and the temptations of the devil, I beheld that the seed of my brethren did overpower the people of my seed. I find this very … Continue reading
