Activity Days Activity- Laundry 101

One of my dreaded chores growing up was folding the laundry. I don’t know why, but in a family of 6 people, this was not a fun task. To this day, I have to say I hate doing laundry. I’m lazy and wait and do it all in one day. My husband seems to think that it would be better if I would do a little every day, but that sounds even more dreadful to me. I didn’t really learn much about laundry until I lived on my own. I’m sure my Mom tried to teach me, but I didn’t … Continue reading

Activity Days- Christmas Activity

This past week we did a Christmas Activity that my girls really loved! It was a little messy, but a lot of fun. I am in charge of our Ward Christmas Party this year, and as part of our party, we are going caroling in our neighborhood as a ward. We wanted something to hand out to the people that we carol to in order to reach out to the many non-members in our neighborhood. So, I thought of Christmas ornaments. Now, Christmas Ornaments are expensive. And, not very personal. So, my idea was to buy clear Christmas ornaments from … Continue reading

Activity Days-Thanksgiving Activity

Today is our activity for Activity Days. I had to make it about Thanksgiving since it is only a week away. I decided to go with both cooking and a craft! I hope I don’t regret fitting too much into one activity, but since I am lucky and get to have activities at my house, I can do crazy stuff like that! I decided that I wanted to help the girls learn the importance of gratitude. So, we are making thanksgiving cards. One of the cards says, “Grateful” on the front. Another says, “Thankful for….” and then you open it … Continue reading

Thanksgiving Dishes That Please Preschoolers

The holiday meal. In our extended family, food items like brussel sprouts are a standby for the holidays, as is turnip and apple. We also serve salad, carrots with lots and lots of onions, wine…you get the picture. It’s not all that kid-friendly, except perhaps for the pumpkin pie. Especially not the sprouts – in fact, I find them somewhat unfriendly as well and tend to steer clear of the tiny cabbages. Shhh, don’t tell! While your preschooler may adore a dish of sprouts and vegetable dishes amply strewn with onions, mine does not. Extended families that have children present … Continue reading

Thoughtful Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Prior to digging into the Thanksgiving turkey, stuffing and other delicious fixings, most families pause for a moment to reflect on all the things they are grateful for. To help facilitate this tradition this year consider making the following holiday craft project: THANKSGIVING BOUQUET This simple yet colorful project doubles as an attractive Thanksgiving centerpiece and a valuable activity for the entire family. The Thanksgiving Bouquet is crafted from paper leaves and sticks. It can be made a few days in advance or a few hours before your Thanksgiving dinner. Prior to eating have each guest choose a “thankful leaf” … Continue reading

Preparing a Fitness Routine for the Fall Season

Well summer is slowly coming to an end. For some people this is a difficult thing to accept. They want to hold onto summer as long as possible. For other people (myself included), they are looking forward to cooler days. As we prepare for the upcoming fall season, we should also be preparing our fitness routine. After all, for many of us things drastically change when the temperatures begin to drop. While many of us are quite active during the summer months, the cooler months can cause some to lose motivation. But planning for this ahead of time can help. … Continue reading

Finding Winter Deals

Timing is everything. Knowing when to buy something can save you a significant amount of money especially when you purchase more expensive, larger or higher-end items. Finding winter deals sometimes takes a little extra work, but it can be well worth it. The trick is pretty simple, though. Purchase items that are not in demand, and stores will reduce the price. In the winter, after the holidays, think of those items that you need or want but are against the crowd. Sometimes you can easily purchase those type of items, and sometimes you have to be a bit more aggressive … Continue reading
