Ask a Marriage Blogger – What Causes of Divorce Have You Seen Personally?

As I mentioned earlier, a friend of mine is getting married and has questions about how to make her relationship as successful as possible. She gave me permission to share some of her questions, and my answers, with you. Q. What are some causes of divorce you’ve seen personally? A. Earlier today, we saw a list of causes that can apply to couples anywhere. The causes I have personally witnessed are subheadings of each of these causes. The first and most common cause I have witnessed is pornography. I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, … Continue reading

7 Tips for Christian Parenting

In my last blog I looked at the way, despite a similar upbringing, children showed different personality traits and interests. But is it possible for characteristics to be attributed to environment and upbringing? Below are seven things consistent in our parenting and the results. 1. From the time our children were young, my husband and I prayed for them and with them. We prayed for their safety but also for their commitment to Jesus and their spiritual growth. They both made commitments to Christ at an early age and then grew in that faith. To help with this, we read … Continue reading

A Personal Relationship with the Holy Ghost

We focus a lot in our religion on growing closer to Heavenly Father and the Savior. We are encouraged to read our scriptures and pray, to learn about Jesus Christ by examining His life, and to follow His example in all things. Along the way, we are blessed with greater increments of the feelings of peace that come from the Holy Ghost, and it’s a wonderful combination. But today, I would like to take another approach, that of coming to know the Holy Ghost more personally. First, let’s examine what we know about the Holy Ghost. We know that He … Continue reading

A Personal Relationship with Jesus Christ

At this time of year, the focus seems to be mostly upon the Baby Jesus who was born in a manger. At Easter, we think about the Atonement, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection. What do we think about the remainder of the year? Having a personal relationship with our Savior is a crucial part of our exaltation. As we come to know Him, we come to understand the role He played in our redemption, and how we absolutely cannot return to our Heavenly Father without the Savior. Everything we are and have is possible because of Jesus Christ. He created … Continue reading

What I Believe-Revelation

When we think of the word revelation, we often think of visions or voices. But, we believe revelation is a lot more simple. While it CAN be a vision, or a very powerful experience, it can often be a simple feeling or thought in our minds. As members of the church, we believe that there is continuing revelation from God through a modern day Prophet. Today, the prophet is President Thomas S. Monson. He speaks twice a year to the church as a whole during what we call, General Conference. It is televised here in Utah, and broadcast by satellite … Continue reading

Mary, Martha, and Betty Sue

We read in the Bible about two sisters named Mary and Martha, and their brother, Lazarus. The members of this family were close personal friends of our Savior’s and He came to visit them whenever he was in Bethany. On one memorable visit, Mary sat at His feet while He taught the principles of everlasting life. Martha was busy in the kitchen, preparing the evening meal, and felt as though Mary should be helping her. When Martha spoke to Christ about this, we all remember His response, that Mary had chosen the better part. Women of the Church have thought … Continue reading

Articles of Faith Series: The Eighth Article

The eighth Article of Faith reads: We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God. One of the biggest concerns some people have about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the fact that we have “another” Bible. They feel that we don’t believe in the Bible and that we are trying to usurp the Bible with our own book of scripture. As the eighth Article of Faith states, we do believe in the Bible. It’s a … Continue reading

In Memoriam – Religious Martyrs

This week, much has been said about those who have died to preserve our freedom. How grateful I am for those courageous men and women who have put their lives on the line to keep me free. I can’t say enough about our fallen heroes, and those who risk their lives every day even now, including firemen, police officers, and all those who endanger themselves so I might enjoy peace of mind. As I’ve thought about how truly blessed I feel, my mind wandered to those who have given their lives so that we might have religious freedom. The first, … Continue reading
